Old time RAMVITE here, from waaaay back!
Opinions, please...my solonoid is acting up on my original German '71 beetle

Dual carb Q's29 Oct 2009 17:52 GMT6
So I have some bread burning a hole in my pocket and am looking at dual carb
setups.  always have run basically stock for 25 years so I don't know if it
is worth it the additional headaches with synchronizing and everything else
that comes with duals.  Where to get a good set?  ...
Ballast Resistor w/Mallory27 Oct 2009 03:26 GMT2
OK, let's see if we chalk up another big goof to me.
I had a Mallory distributor with electronic ignition module in storage
for years. I installed it. It worked. I went on a drive and it was great.
THEN I found the instructions that indicate that I was to have a ballast
1302 Super drop-top25 Oct 2009 08:46 GMT2
I'm restoring a 1971 super convertable, that a previous owner has
butchered. When they gutted the interior, they took most of the wiring
out as well.
What's got me stumped is the voltage regulator.
Super Beetle front shimmy24 Oct 2009 17:20 GMT3
about 30 mph. I'd check steering damper. tie rod ends , bent wheel and

Generator fan interference23 Oct 2009 00:39 GMT5
My friend replaced a generator (dog house) and then had a terrible
howling, scream. esp. as the RPM's picked up.
he claimed it made no such rubbing noise when hand spun during

My 1978 VW camper caught fire21 Oct 2009 22:20 GMT6
Earlier this summer, my 1978 VW camper (standard transmission) caught
fire. Luckily the fire did not go for very long and the damage is
limited to the engine compartment. Since this means that the engine is
going to need lots of work, I've been contemplating the idea of
Old Beetle Stalls When Braking21 Oct 2009 06:38 GMT3
I used to be on this newsgroup about eight years ago, and I see a few
familiar names (Jan, didn't you used to live in Finland or was that
someone else?). But where did the archives go?
Anyway, here is the problem: I have a 72 Super Beetle with an idling
Buying a vw.20 Oct 2009 17:00 GMT2
Back when I was 15, my dad bought me a 74 std bug.   traded that car in a
few years later, around 1995?  That was back in South Carolina where I grew
up.
While skimming through pictures on The Samba today, I came across that car.
Something not related to that one guy.20 Oct 2009 01:45 GMT27
So, to change subjects, I got a free vw today.  71 std.  someone was going
to make a back half trailer out of it, so its cut almost in half.  All that
wasnt cut was about 2 inches of the tunnel.   You should have seen the roof
flapping in the wind going down the interstate at 75 ...
