Cabrio - stall when AC is on11 May 2004 01:16 GMT2
'98 Cabrio, manual trans. I just replaced the thermostat (wasn't opening,
caused serious overheat problem). About the same time the overheat problem
started, the engine started stalling whenever A/C is on.  Engine idle is
just fine at 800 RPM when A/C is off, but when we turn the ...
04 GTI questions...10 May 2004 23:58 GMT6
Now that I'm a born again VW owner (nothing religious, mind you), I have a
few questions:
1) The most annoying thing is a slight whistling noise from the sunroof.
I've visually inspected the gaskets and mating surfaces, and all seem to be

General Rust Question10 May 2004 21:34 GMT6
I found a 1997 Cabrio GLS with just over 50k miles on it... except
that it's about 2 years older than I'd originally hoped to get (I kind
of had the idea I'd find a 99 1/2 GL on the cheap) it's the perfect
answer to what I'd been looking for... and the price is fair to both

01 Golf Brake Change help: reset rear caliper pistons?10 May 2004 19:03 GMT4
I'm attempting my first maintenance on my new-to-me '01 Golf TDI: The rear
pads need replacement. Shouldn't be a big deal, I've been doing my own
brakes for years. Question is, how do you retract the rear calipers? Some
instructions I've seen seem to indicate using a big press-type ...
What's the lowdown on emissions warranties?10 May 2004 16:58 GMT9
I'm thinking of buying a certified used VW and am concerned about experiencing
the ever frequent sensor, foul the converter, mega repair bill syndrome. When I
do research at Edmunds it says that the emissions warranty expires after
2yrs/24,000 miles. I can not find the details of ...
VW diesel with common rail diesel engine10 May 2004 16:02 GMT9
Recently I've read somewhere (can't remember where), that VW is introducing
a new diesel engine car with common rail instead of the (for VW) well known
TDI. Can any of you confirm this "rumour"?
I am currently considering buying a Touran Van Diesel - but if this model

Jetta 2.0 vs. 1.8T10 May 2004 02:34 GMT47
I've looking to buy a 2004 Jetta. Last week I test drove one with the 1.8T
engine. When I asked the salesman if it required premium fuel he said no. Is
this really the case?
Also, is there a huge difference in performance between the 1.8T and the
99 Passat Brakes dragging sometimes09 May 2004 23:55 GMT1
A friend of mine has an early '99 Passat (2.8l V^, 5-sp automatic) and has
a case of what sounds like faulty brake activity.
Specifically, the brakes seem to be actuating by themselves every once in
awhile. He says he's noticed it mostly on the expressway - he'll be
Belt from hell...help?09 May 2004 19:39 GMT8
After burning up my alternator belt, I did as instructed and the alternator
seemed to turn freely,  so I figured I'll buy a belt, and put it on, check
and see how that runs (92 Jetta).
So there's 3 belts on this thing
