My black 86 GTI is starting to show some rust spots. I'm going to be getting
some books at the library on auto body repair, and I have fixed and painted
a couple of cars in the past.
When it comes to rust repair, just how far do I have to go?  Can I just use

'85 Jetta (gas). Most of the time when I start it the idle is just fine,
about 750-800 RPM. Every once in a while - maybe once every dozen starts or
so - when I start it, the idles swing back and forth wildly between about
1500 RPM and almost stalling, lasting for maybe 5-10 seconds ...

Got a 2001.5 Passat.  On of the daytime running lights is burnt out.  How
difficult is this to replace?  Owner's Manual says "let a dealer do it".  If
it's not too technically challenging, where can I get a replacement?  What's
the approximate cost of a replacement?

   I'm thinking of trading in my Mk3 Golf TDi and replacing it with either
a Passat TDi or A4 Tdi. Both would be on about an (UK) R reg ('97/'98 I
think). Anyone got any strong preferences on what I'd be better off getting?

Rabbit 82 Diesel (230K) runs great, but the window in drivers door
(2-door) is becoming a pain, cocks backwards and jams, partway up.
Bottom lift channel could have slipped?  Can't find true dimensions.
