| Rust repair on 1986 GTI | 27 May 2004 19:19 GMT | 2 |
My black 86 GTI is starting to show some rust spots. I'm going to be getting some books at the library on auto body repair, and I have fixed and painted a couple of cars in the past. When it comes to rust repair, just how far do I have to go? Can I just use

| '85 Jetta, erratic idle at startup. | 27 May 2004 16:31 GMT | 4 |
'85 Jetta (gas). Most of the time when I start it the idle is just fine, about 750-800 RPM. Every once in a while - maybe once every dozen starts or so - when I start it, the idles swing back and forth wildly between about 1500 RPM and almost stalling, lasting for maybe 5-10 seconds ...

| 2001.5 Passat Head Light replacement | 26 May 2004 22:59 GMT | 8 |
Got a 2001.5 Passat. On of the daytime running lights is burnt out. How difficult is this to replace? Owner's Manual says "let a dealer do it". If it's not too technically challenging, where can I get a replacement? What's the approximate cost of a replacement?

| VW Passat vAudi A4: Advice | 26 May 2004 21:49 GMT | 1 |
I'm thinking of trading in my Mk3 Golf TDi and replacing it with either a Passat TDi or A4 Tdi. Both would be on about an (UK) R reg ('97/'98 I think). Anyone got any strong preferences on what I'd be better off getting? I do about 500 commuter miles a week and am quite tall ...

| A1 Rabbit drivers door window problem | 26 May 2004 17:15 GMT | 3 |
Rabbit 82 Diesel (230K) runs great, but the window in drivers door (2-door) is becoming a pain, cocks backwards and jams, partway up. Bottom lift channel could have slipped? Can't find true dimensions. Any other hints: for lube regulator or side channel also appreciated.

Hi all - After visiting GTi Inters this year I picked up hubs, calipers, discs, pads and cylinder for a 16v GTi Golf MK2. I currently have an 8v setup for my 85 Golf and I want to swap over to this system. I've serviced and sorted the hubs and calipers but have come to swap the

| Newbie - gauges | 26 May 2004 11:40 GMT | 2 |
I have just purchased a 1984 VW Rabbit Cabriolet. There is a cluster of three gauges on the centre console. The centre gauge has me stumped what is it for ? There is some printing on the gauge face that says "bar." I think it stands for barometer, but what does that have to do with ...

| 95 Jetta - rain is flooding the passenger floor | 26 May 2004 09:29 GMT | 5 |
This 95 Jetta is my daughter's car. Great condition. No damage. So why does the passenger floor pick up an inch of water in every rain? The door seal looks perfect. Is the cowl catchment drain blocked? It appears to exit at a rubber pucker between the door hinges, and is

| 020 transmission rebuild? | 26 May 2004 04:57 GMT | 2 |
I have a 96 A3 Jetta with 285km. The tranny main shaft bearing & 1st gear syncro have are on their way out. How difficult is it for a home mechanic to rebuild one of these animals (code DFQ26016)? Choices aren't good, given that I don't want to scrap the car & it would be
