98 golf transmission problems09 Aug 2006 13:35 GMT1
Hey folks,
I have a 98 Golf, automatic transmission, 80 000km.
At first, while accelerating from a stop, the car would go into neutral
after 1st gear,  needing to pull over until going back into gear.  This
I think I destroyed my clutch.09 Aug 2006 00:46 GMT17
I got a quick story about my 82 VW 1.7 gasser pickup.  I was on my way
back from vacation on a 7 hour drive.  I stop to use the restroom at a
gas station and upon trying to restart my truck, the 9 month old
starter refuses.  (The solenoid has been getting very flakey.  It will
8V GTi shudder when turning right09 Aug 2006 00:03 GMT4
My 1990 MkII 8V Golf GTi has developed a shudder when turning right. It
becomes noticeable above about 50 MPH. On a fast sweeping right, it
feels like driving on cobblestones, though there is no noise or
grating. In normal town driving, it's barely perceptible. No problem
Trim backing08 Aug 2006 22:25 GMT1
My trim is still is relatively good shape.  The problem is after removing
trim panels to do interior work a number of time on the 88 Fox, the
corkboard has ripped up where the nylon retainers are inserted.  Its no
fixable.
Breaking vibrations08 Aug 2006 20:24 GMT4
I have an lovely old polo MK2 which has a few issues with vibrations
when breaking from around 60mph to about 30. The entire front of the
vehicle seems to wobble and the vibration mainly seems to be in the
front wheels.
Itermittent Schreeching?08 Aug 2006 20:18 GMT1
Hi all - I've got a 2000 1.4s VW Golf and have recently noticed that there
is an odd sound. It sounds abit like brake squeal but doesn't happen under
braking. It also sounds like a good old fashioned fan belt squeal but I
don't have one of those! I thought I had narrowed it down to ...
Central locking programming08 Aug 2006 17:12 GMT2
Got a new Touran which I'm very pleased with but the stupid "two presses on
the remote to unlock all the doors" is bugging me.
I have *never* only wanted to just unlock the drivers door.  Is it possible
for the system to be changed to unlock all the doors with a single press on
Golf Driver Mk2 idle speed08 Aug 2006 09:42 GMT2
Ok, not high idle speed for a change but LOW idle speed.
I've just replaced the intermediate flange (between the carb and the
manifold) as there was no seal at all - very rough, lumpy running yes.
It now runs fantastically again but won't idle properly at all, keeps
Temporary blowby?08 Aug 2006 04:54 GMT4
I let the oil change interval go by too long.  About a year, 6K miles.
Normally speaking the oil never gets black as can be, just dirty looking.
And, never lost a drop of oil.
Last oil change had maybe 1.5 quarts in the pan, plus the filter contents.

my airbag light is on all the time the ignition is on.
Took it to vw and they said the fault was the slip ring in the driver
side airbag. they want £90 for the part and £97 to fit it
I've read on some sites that the problem can sometimes be solved by

door.  Is there another way of getting the door open with out going to the
dealership?
I can hear the release working when i pull up on the switch, however the door

Passat replacement engine07 Aug 2006 12:53 GMT2
My Passat 1.8T's engine finally terminated yesterday. I am now loooking
round for a replacement engine and was wondering if rather than
replacing it with the same 1.8T it would be possible to replace it with
any of the other engine options?
Service Action07 Aug 2006 03:36 GMT4
Got a letter today from VWoA about replacing the Crankcase Breather Hose
on my 02 Passat 1.8T. It says I have up to 100,000 miles or ten years
before the Service Action expires. My question is should I be concerned
about this and get it replaced or just wait till it's necessary. ...
