I already had this issue at the end of last winter, I think I am better solve it before the cold starts again: I spew a lot of smoke and start with very low power in my 2001 VW Golf TDI. Now at 100,000 mi, and no other issues to talk of. In fact the car gets all

| Auto Trans Question | 19 Sep 2006 01:32 GMT | 2 |
We're talking about a '99 Jetta, 2.0, 4-speed auto transmission. Doesn't belong to me, but I drive it about twice a year and do routine maintenance on it. About 6 months ago, I noticed what I thought was tire tread noise, the

| How tough are A1 stub axles? | 19 Sep 2006 01:13 GMT | 3 |
I had the rear wheels off on my '84 Scirocco and noticed that the passenger side drum would not turn as easily as the driver side - definitely some binding going on (no, the e-brake was not set). So either my wheel cylinder is acting up or my stub axle is bent? Recently I ran ...

| Ultra-low sulfur in TDI | 17 Sep 2006 14:46 GMT | 3 |
Many stations are now carrying ultra-low sulfur. I have heard different things about this. For one it will harm current diesel engines. I have a 2004 TDI. Is what I heard true? Do I need to run additives to prevent damage to the engine?

| 81 rabbit--Oxygen sensor Test | 17 Sep 2006 04:21 GMT | 3 |
I have been running the Meter Tests on the oxygen sensor on a 81 1.7L FI rabbit, and the Bentley Manual at page 74 of section 4, says that after the engine is started, and runs for a few minutes, that the dwell meter reading should fluctuate. My question is how much fluctuation is

| Are modern Jettas as reliable as the A2's? | 16 Sep 2006 19:41 GMT | 18 |
My '88 Jetta GL has served me very well the last 13 years but it's getting a bit creaky. For the first time in several years, my finances finally allow me to do something about it. I'm looking at a '93 Jetta as well as similar Civics and Corollas.

| Interchangeable Parts | 16 Sep 2006 00:41 GMT | 1 |
To illustrate the reason for my question below, I have learned that the A/C compressor on an 82-86 Capri, 82-93 Mustang, 84-86 LTD, 85 Marquis, 85-88 Cougar and 85-88 Thunderbird are all interchangeable. Is there a book or manual (either in print, online or on CD-ROM) that lists

Anyone got any experience of this company? They are offering great value ECU remaps and I'm thinking of one for my Golf GTI 1.8T AGU, but I'm not going to part with any cash until I've heard some recommendations. Any advice gratefully received.

| Cold start and running problems with 02 1.8T Passat | 15 Sep 2006 07:53 GMT | 4 |
I posted some time back about the cold start problems we've had with our 2002 1.8T Tiptronic Passat, about 53K miles. It's been back to the dealer three times for this problem in the last 3K miles. The last time we left it for a couple days and here's what the work

| Chipping a MK4 Golf GTI 1.8T | 14 Sep 2006 21:40 GMT | 6 |
I recently bought a Golf GTi 1.8T and am loving every minute of it. However, it could clearly do with a little more power. I've seen lots of websites offering tweaks that will boost the BHP from the standard 150 to 180, 195, 210 and beyond. It all sounds tempting, but I've got

| Strange sound when driving Golf GTi 1.8T | 14 Sep 2006 21:33 GMT | 7 |
I've had my 1998 Golf GTI 1.8T a few weeks and since owning it I've noticed a slight noise every time I lift off the throttle. It's not a loud dump valve wheeze that you hear on some cars. I can only describe it as a sort of whickering sound. I've always assumed that this is
