2001 TDI - Smokey start, low cold power19 Sep 2006 20:01 GMT3
I already had this issue at the end of last winter, I think I am better
solve it before the cold starts again:
I spew a lot of smoke and start with very low power in my 2001 VW Golf TDI.
Now at 100,000 mi, and no other issues to talk of. In fact the car gets all
Auto Trans Question19 Sep 2006 01:32 GMT2
We're talking about a '99 Jetta, 2.0, 4-speed auto transmission.
Doesn't belong to me, but I drive it about twice a year and do routine
maintenance on it.
About 6 months ago, I noticed what I thought was tire tread noise, the
How tough are A1 stub axles?19 Sep 2006 01:13 GMT3
I had the rear wheels off on my '84 Scirocco and noticed that the passenger
side drum would not turn as easily as the driver side - definitely some
binding going on (no, the e-brake was not set). So either my wheel cylinder
is acting up or my stub axle is bent? Recently I ran ...
The Windshield & Rearview Mirror Saga18 Sep 2006 13:42 GMT6
My son through a baseball in the car knocking the rearview
mirror off the windshield.
Now get this... The adhesive between the baseplate and the
windshield did not fail; the glass did.
Ultra-low sulfur in TDI17 Sep 2006 14:46 GMT3
Many stations are now carrying ultra-low sulfur.  I have heard different
things about this.  For one it will harm current diesel engines.  I have a
2004 TDI.  Is what I heard true?  Do I need to run additives to prevent
damage to the engine?
81 rabbit--Oxygen sensor Test17 Sep 2006 04:21 GMT3
I have been running the Meter Tests on the oxygen sensor on a 81 1.7L
FI rabbit, and the Bentley Manual at page 74 of section 4, says that
after the engine is started, and runs for a few minutes, that the dwell
meter reading should fluctuate.  My question is how much fluctuation is
1998 white gti rust.. hatchback door17 Sep 2006 01:55 GMT6
I have a rusty hatch door on my 1998 VW gti. The color of the car is white so
the rust is a real eye sore. Does anyone have any advice... Take it to a body
shop and get it fixed up? (how much would someone like this cost... will the
paint match up with car if its repainted?) any ...
Are modern Jettas as reliable as the A2's?16 Sep 2006 19:41 GMT18
My '88 Jetta GL has served me very well the last 13 years but it's
getting a bit creaky.  For the first time in several years, my finances
finally allow me to do something about it.
I'm looking at a '93 Jetta as well as similar Civics and Corollas.
Interchangeable Parts16 Sep 2006 00:41 GMT1
To illustrate the reason for my question below, I have learned that the A/C
compressor on an 82-86 Capri, 82-93 Mustang, 84-86 LTD, 85 Marquis, 85-88
Cougar and 85-88 Thunderbird are all interchangeable.
Is there a book or manual (either in print, online or on CD-ROM) that lists

parts for older and newer water-cooled vw's specifically I have a 84'

Chipped UK15 Sep 2006 08:56 GMT13
Anyone got any experience of this company?  They are offering great
value ECU remaps and I'm thinking of one for my Golf GTI 1.8T AGU, but
I'm not going to part with any cash until I've heard some
recommendations.  Any advice gratefully received.
Cold start and running problems with 02 1.8T Passat15 Sep 2006 07:53 GMT4
I posted some time back about the cold start problems we've had with our
2002 1.8T Tiptronic Passat, about 53K miles.  It's been back to the
dealer three times for this problem in the last 3K miles.
The last time we left it for a couple days and here's what the work
Chipping a MK4 Golf GTI 1.8T14 Sep 2006 21:40 GMT6
I recently bought a Golf GTi 1.8T and am loving every minute of it.
However, it could clearly do with a little more power.  I've seen lots
of websites offering tweaks that will boost the BHP from the standard
150 to 180, 195, 210 and beyond.  It all sounds tempting, but I've got
Strange sound when driving Golf GTi 1.8T14 Sep 2006 21:33 GMT7
I've had my 1998 Golf GTI 1.8T a few weeks and since owning it I've
noticed a slight noise every time I lift off the throttle.  It's not a
loud dump valve wheeze that you hear on some cars.  I can only describe
it as a sort of whickering sound.  I've always assumed that this is
Warm start problem with 99 TDI Beetle14 Sep 2006 18:48 GMT1
I have problem starting when engine is warmed up starting is no problem

Temp Sensor will fix the problem but I don't know if that was for
diesel (TDI) engine or for gasoline engine...?...
