where can I buy crimp tool?30 Aug 2007 01:58 GMT5
I'm looking for a crimp tool that will do factory-style crimps on the
little electrical connectors used on European cars, the ones with two
tabs that fold over and crimp over the wire and then two more that fold
over and crimp over the insulation for strain relief.  I had a cheap ...
86 Golf Diesel - Heating & Cooling vents30 Aug 2007 01:50 GMT2
Can the interior heating, defrost and cooling vents be cleaned beyond
normal reach? Lots of engine dust and very small debris coming out of
vents occasionally. The car had not been run for a year when I bought
it last week. Wondering if I can find the air intake and clean that
2001 Beetle  won't start29 Aug 2007 01:50 GMT5
My 1.8T Beetle began having starting problems last week.  This is how
it starts. The instrument panel lights up. Then everything dims,
there's dead silence and then it catches.  Sometimes.

? GTI: 5W-30 instead of 5W-40 ?28 Aug 2007 23:12 GMT8
2006 GTI (2.0 turbo)
I found that the VW dealer put in 5w-30 instead of 5w-40 today at my third
oil change. I told him the manual says the oil must be 5w-40, but he was
unconcerned.
Struck out on receiver trailer hitch '90 Golf . No new holes.28 Aug 2007 03:49 GMT4
I've been reading and looking for a receiver type hitch for a '90
Golf (built April 1990 so pre-1990.5)  where the hitch installation
doesn't require any new holes drilled in the car. Have checked out the
web sites for Dalan, Hidden Hitch, and DrawTite. All their models for
HT leads and stuff27 Aug 2007 19:52 GMT1
I bought a Quantum pack of replacement HT leads for my Mk 3 1.8 CL Golf,
months ago - possibly more.
I finally got round to fitting them today, and while the 4 HT leads are
fine, the (can't remember the name) lead that comes down to the erm...
Code scanner27 Aug 2007 13:14 GMT4
I am looking to buy a code scanner for my 2000 beetle. I noticed that there
are some that are specifically for VW's. Does anyone know how those differ
from the universal code scanners? Does it matter which one I get? Thanks for
any help.
2000 Passat V6 2.8L timing belt and water pump27 Aug 2007 13:12 GMT9
The water pump just went out on my Passat at about 80K miles.  So I've dived
in and am replacing it.  Also replacing the timing belt, tensioner, and
relay roller while I'm in there.  Also serpentine drive belt and all coolant
hoses.  Is there anything else I should be replacing ...
100W headlight bulbs in B5 Passat?27 Aug 2007 06:53 GMT4
Anyone have experience upgrading their headlight bulbs to 100W (or
higher...) ?  Have a brace of 2005 Passats, and have been less than
impressed with the light thrown forward, often over-running it at 110km/hr
out in the (dark) country.....
86 Scirocco 16v won't start27 Aug 2007 06:35 GMT5
I just picked up an '86 Scirocco 16v.  A few weeks ago it would start
with a little luck, now it just turns over but won't catch.  If I let
it sit a day or so it will run for a few seconds on the first try,
then stall and not catch again.
2000 Passat V6 2.8L oil leak27 Aug 2007 02:35 GMT10
Ever since I've had this car, it's leaked oil near the oil filter.  I've
always used NAPA gold filters.  After reading on here, I've ordered a MANN
filter to see if that solves the problem.  Can anyone suggest another cause,
other than a poor seal at the filter gasket?
2000 Passat V6 coolant27 Aug 2007 01:58 GMT1
Along with the water pump change, I'm replacing the coolant.  Of course, VW
dealership told me I should buy their red coolant because it's the best.  Is
there any reason I cant just get brand name red stuff from my auto parts
store and use it?
Need a sanity check -1.8T sludge - time to give up?26 Aug 2007 17:54 GMT7
I know this topic has been beaten into the ground.  I don't need to
know what the problem is, or what causes it, or how to prevent it.  My
car already has it.  I spent $1200 not even a year ago because oil
starvation had necessitated replacement of my main bearings.  Despite
Mk2 Golf 1.3 valve/'rocker' cover gasket change26 Aug 2007 12:03 GMT1
How difficult should removing the top/cam/valve/rocker cover on the VW
1272cc engine (code=2G)? My mum's 1991 Golf went near the main dealer
this week (yeah, I know!) That unrelated job was done OK (should be
for the money!) but the "free visual inspection" flagged up an oil
Coolant issue with 1986 Golf Diesel24 Aug 2007 05:08 GMT10
After driving about 100 miles, I stopped in town for dinner. When I
drove home I turned on the heat and it never warmed up. Thinking it
might be the coolant, the red indicator light never came on. The
temperature needle was to the right. When I arrived home, it appeared
