For over a year, my 2000 VW JETTA TDI has been my weather man. After a rain, when I open my car door the alarm system fails to reset, so that when I start the engine I have to wait 30 seconds listening to the horn. Recently I have discovered that if I go to the trunk and

I have a 2005.5 Jetta 2.5L. The windshield wipers have a proprietary connector design and I can't replace them with standard ones. So, I have two questions: 1. Other than my dealer, Can anyone recommend a good source for those

| New Rims | 20 Sep 2007 13:11 GMT | 1 |
Some people buy new rims to jazz up the appearance and make their vehicle look sexy. Others buy after market wheels to improve the performance of their vehicle. When you get a mix of appearance and performance in your rims you can actually improve gas mileage as well

| "low class" | 20 Sep 2007 04:27 GMT | 2 |
Not to pontificate, but in essence that is the problem: "some pretty out of touch decisions." US Automakers, like the US itself, should've taken the hint after something called the "Arab Oil Embargo" and smartened up.

| Vanagon Engine question | 19 Sep 2007 15:49 GMT | 2 |
Will a stock 2.1 waterboxer be a direct replacement for a 1.9 in a 1985 Vanagon? Or will it or the Vanagon need modifications?

| 1981 Diesel Rabbit radiator hose upgrades? | 19 Sep 2007 04:42 GMT | 5 |
I've had a couple of radiator hose issues, and now the lower hose has collapsed. A workmate of my has had several lower radiator hoses collapse. The main issue seems to be the more than 90 degree bend, but "inferior manufacture" may be an issue as well (these are NAPA hoses, ...

| Rear Shocks | 18 Sep 2007 18:49 GMT | 3 |
I had a sticking rear shock on my 85 Jetta GL 1.8L, so I ordered up a set of Sachs replacement shocks. They came without any rubber parts, and I discovered this at 9 at night in a borrowed garage, so I carefully removed the old shocks (a set of YKB's). This involved

| tire size and drive ratio | 17 Sep 2007 13:29 GMT | 2 |
If I change from the stock 225-40-18 tires to 225-35-18 would I notice a significant improvement in the launch? That change would amount to the speedometer reading 103.7 mph instead of 100 mph, and would multiply any drive ratio by 1.037 or very close to that. For instance, first ...

| 90 Carat starter relay or solenoid problem | 16 Sep 2007 23:01 GMT | 4 |
This has happened twice now. I go to start the car in the morning (8v, manual trans) and I get a quiet scratchy/electrical /buzz sound from the front. After a second or two I let off of the key. I try again and it starts right up.

| Sticky Shifting | 16 Sep 2007 15:10 GMT | 7 |
I've been having trouble shifting my 5-sp. 1990 Golf lately. It just feels sticky, like the shift lever doesn't want to go into gear. I notice it most right off the freeway, when I'm back in town and shifting more. Would a trans. fluid change take care of this?

| 2000 Jetta GL - Coolant Leak | 14 Sep 2007 21:41 GMT | 12 |
As the subject line says, I have a 2000 Jetta GL - apparently with a coolant leak. It's not a bad one, I've had the coolant level low alert come on twice and both times I put some purified water in (about 1 pint) and it didn't come back for about a month and a half. The
