MK2 Goilf GTI 8V Alternator22 Oct 2007 15:06 GMT3
How much work is to pull one of these off? I can see that the mounting bolt
is secured under the cam belt cover somewhere - has the belt got to come off
or is it a simple matter of pulling the cover off and undoing a bolt?

caravelle cold weather starting21 Oct 2007 19:40 GMT1
Since the weather got a bit colder over the last few days, have noticed
that the starter seems to be very slow for the first start of the day.
I thought the battery must need replacing but a test at Halfords
indicated the battery is in good condition.
R32 problems21 Oct 2007 05:42 GMT2
I have a brand new Golf R32 bought in July, here in the UK.  Since I got it,
it has now spent more time in the dealers' workshop than in my garage and
I've done more miles in loan cars than in my own.  The problem is a random
electronic failure which sometimes causes the ...

96 Golf GL 65K miles and I'm replacing rear shoes on drum brakes. Have
Bentley 93-97 manual but illustrations and instructions for this task are
vague and incomplete. For example manual says to replace upper return spring
but no illustration or text clearly shows connection ...

Any comments. I dont know if there is a Skoda equivalent to this group
'01 GOLF TDI: Timing Belt...do I really need to change it?19 Oct 2007 19:28 GMT3
I  have an '01 Golf TDI with 302,000km on it....never going back to
gas engines!  Its due for its 3rd timing belt change.  Do I really
need to do this?  The last 2 times I changed it, here was hardly any
wear on it at all.  I plan on keeping the car another 100,000km.  Your
'87 Scirocco 16V Oil pan18 Oct 2007 13:11 GMT11
My son hit an object and smashed in the oil pan on my 1987 Scirocco 16V.
I'm assuming the oil pan from other years (86, 88, like that) of this car
will fit.  But as I recall the block here is pretty common.  Are there other
years and models I could get an oil pan off off in a bone ...
Omaha area VW mechanic? Transmission trouble 87 golf17 Oct 2007 06:04 GMT1
I need recommendations for a VW mechanic in the Omaha area, preferably in
the Southwest part of town, or even out towards Springfield. I'm looking for
the same qualities we all look for in mechanics: competent, fair, and
reasonably priced.
Just got back from Ireland and I have to say...17 Oct 2007 02:48 GMT7

ALTERNATOR!!!16 Oct 2007 23:00 GMT10
My alternator that I just bought had been rebuilt by a reputable
person. problem is that is when the car is idling it just like to hang
out a 12.5 volts, if I give it any gas, the volts drop down to
11.90ish. the belt squeels alot when im doing that. so is it possible

What is your experience with the automatic transmisssion?
Mass air flow sensor15 Oct 2007 05:56 GMT4
An acquaintance, backyard mechanic, messed with my air flow sensor setting
screw.   It ran okay for awhile, but now is running very rich as judged by
mpg and the tailpipe black color.   Mpg went from 34 mpg average to 29.  He
screwed it in alot beyond where the factory locked it ...
Possible brake issue on "90 Vanagon14 Oct 2007 15:09 GMT5
Had a complete front brake overhaul done last July of '06. Pads,
calipers, rotors, grease seals... all replaced on both sides.
For the last month or more I have had a rather high pitched warbling,
squealing sound coming from somewhere most noticeable during highway
