1999 Passat Wiper "rest position" is wrong13 Mar 2008 03:08 GMT3
I've got a 1999 Passat.  When the wipers are shut off, they stop in
the "up" position - the far left side of their normal travel.  (I
believe newer Passats have a way to put the blades into the "up"
position for maintenance, but this year allegedly does not.)

I know very little about auto electrical stuff, so forgive me if I'm
missing something really obvious.
The car is a 96 Passat wagon, auto, vr6.

I was doing the weekly underbonet checked oil, washer fluid, etc etc and

Passat-1.8T-2003-Valve Cover Leak08 Mar 2008 04:01 GMT2
Took my car in for annual required safety inspection.
Advised shop that I smelled something like hot oil after driving
awhile.
Mechanic said smell came from leaking valve cover.
Tires07 Mar 2008 04:51 GMT8
A general question for those more intelligent than I:
Is it acceptable to replace only one front tire? My 2005 Passat TDI had a
nail in the Sidewall. 32000 miles on the original tires. They still have
lots of life in them.

Intermittent audio distortion (2004 VW Golf)06 Mar 2008 02:23 GMT12
I have a 2004 VW Golf, with the original AM/FM/CD receiver replaced
with a Kenwood receiver that has MP3 and Sirius radio capability.
In general, it works fine.  However, there is an intermittent problem
with distorted crackling in high frequencies on the left channel only.
What is this deposit in my exhaust port05 Mar 2008 23:59 GMT9
The exhaust port on my 1985 Passat has a hard white deposit inside it  ( I'd
post a pic if I knew how!). I thought it might be water but if it is wouldent
there be some evidence of failure of the head gasket? There is none that I
can see. The valve itself also has some of this white ...
Driving on the right02 Mar 2008 07:31 GMT2
I hope to take my '06 B6 Passat to Bordeaux during the summer and would like
to avoid blinding the foreign drivers with my RHD Left dip headlights. I
notice that though they aren't asymmetric like all previous lights they
still appear to be biased to the left.
Scirocco->Corrado transplant02 Mar 2008 06:45 GMT12
What sort of complications could I expect moving the 16V engine from a 1987
Scirocco into a 1990 Corrado G60?
The Scirocco is kaput (harvested the transmission to keep my other Scirocco
going), the body is beat to hell, and so on.
A3 Motor Swap options02 Mar 2008 00:23 GMT2
What body lines will an A3 motor and transmission swap into?
I've driven A1 and A2 cars for years, but now I have my first A3 body
car that I just crashed and have a strong, healthy motor and
transmission with only 75K miles on them.  This is a '98 Golf 2.0 5

Just collected the caravelle from the local garrage after some work.
They have pointed out from the service record that the last time the
timing belt was changed was in 2003 fifty two thousand miles ago.
They told me they would not want to do the work but that vw charge about
