Polo engine noise31 Mar 2009 14:23 GMT11
I have a Polo 1.4 (1998) that has gradually become noisy at the top end.
Sounds like a single noisy tappet, apparent on startup, then goes away for a
little while until the engine warms up, and comes back. On icy days the
noise is so loud on startup that it sounds like a knocking, ...
VW To Play Polo In America29 Mar 2009 07:57 GMT1
The $13K-$15K American compact market is going to get another player, as Automotive News [sub] reports that VW's Polo is coming stateside. But VW won't be selling the traditional Yaris-fighting small hatch version of the Polo here, says VOA CEO Stefan Jacoby. Instead VW is easing ...

Broken valve, why?24 Mar 2009 18:43 GMT8
This is a 1.9 SDI engine. It was running on 3 cyl.and produced a lot of
smoke. I diagnosed a compression loss on cyl #4. Pulled the head and #4
piston was sitting lower than #1(?). Maybe a bad bearing shell or bend rod.
Pulled the oil pan and indeed a bend rod. Replaced the rod.
Golf running, stalls occasionally23 Mar 2009 05:30 GMT5
Finally got back the 90 Golf 8V back from the shop.  It stopped
running one day when around a corner I stepped on it and it died with
a whirring sound.  The shop replaced the timing belt, water pump,
battery, and starter.  $750 and a week later, it's running again.

MIL is on16 Mar 2009 14:35 GMT10
The car is a 2003 VW Golf GTI 1.8T. Recently the MIL light came on and
it was diagnosed with a defective secondary air pump and thermostat. I
had them replace the secondary air pump only. The thermostat was not
replaced because the engine is not overheating and the temperature

Touareg Tele button11 Mar 2009 19:45 GMT1

alternators from charging the battery.
If it sets awhile on start up the center console  meter will read 13.5
Jetta Safety Rating07 Mar 2009 07:45 GMT12
First a little background:  My wife and I owned a 02 Jetta TDI (180k + miles)
which we both liked a great deal and were quite happy with.  I fully expected to
get 400k+ miles out it.  However, 3 weeks ago a driver in a '98 Jeep Wrangler
lost control on some 'black ice' and crossed ...
