With sleet and snow remaining a strong possibility in North Texas tomorrow morning, AAA Texas is offering these tips for driving during icy road conditions:
-- Avoid driving during the storm if possible. If you must drive, be sure you are alert and able to focus closely on the road.
-- Use your seatbelt every time you get in the car.
-- Never warm up a vehicle in an enclosed area, such as a garage.
-- Make certain your tires are properly inflated.
-- Never mix radial tires with other tire types.
-- Keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid gas line freeze up.
-- If possible, avoid using your parking brake in cold, rainy and snowy weather.
To minimize the dangers associated with wet winter driving, both the vehicle and the driver must be prepared in advance. The following items carried in your vehicle will be invaluable should an emergency develop:
-- Small bag of abrasive material (sand, salt or kitty litter)
-- Small snow shovel
-- Flashlight
-- Ice scraper
-- Cloth or roll of paper towels
-- Booster cables
-- Blanket
-- Warning devices (flares or triangles)
