Nissan’s Child Safety Campaign Raises Community Awareness

Robert Hess   14 Feb 2006 18:29 GMTPage rating:

This week, Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) and four local Los Angeles community organizations are partnering to offer free child passenger safety seat seminars to the public in support of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) National Child Passenger Safety Week.

Nissan’s Quest for SafetyTM campaign is designed to educate parents and caregivers at the grassroots level about child passenger safety. The seminars will focus on California\'s child passenger safety law, requiring children to be placed in child safety seats or boosters until they are 6 years old or weigh 60 pounds.

The seminars will provide caregivers a hands-on demonstration on how to properly install a child safety/booster seat.  Nissan will have English- and Spanish-language educational materials, as well as its own safety engineers available to perform child seat demonstrations and answer specific questions about child seat safety. In conjunction to Nissan’s Quest for SafetyTM campaign, Nissan is committed to making sure that every child rides in a safety seat or booster that properly fits in their parents or guardians’ vehicles through Nissan’s Snug KidsTM program.

Driven by the desire to provide safer vehicles to its consumers worldwide, Nissan has developed new hardware and software components under its “Safety Shield” concept.  By developing new safety technologies and through Nissan’s Snug KidsTM   and Quest for SafetyTM community outreach campaigns, Nissan desires to create a society free of traffic accidents.

According to NHTSA, an average of 7 children under the age of 15 were killed and 772 children were injured each day in 2004. NHTSA’s research shows 80% of child restraints are not used properly.  Therefore, it is important to not only educate the community about child safety, but also educate the community on the proper installation and use of child safety seats.
