Aside from the chaos of planning and packing for a family road trip this summer, General Motors brings the nation’s petroleum consumption to the forefront by providing facts about the benefits of driving flexible-fuel vehicles (FFVs) and using alternative fuels such as E85 ethanol while traveling this vacation season.
E85 ethanol is an alternative fuel to gasoline and is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. Ethanol is a high octane, domestically-produced renewable fuel, and in the United States., ethanol is typically produced from corn and other grains mainly produced in the Midwest.
Even while traveling to and from vacation destinations in the Midwest from Chicago, consumers can see tangible gasoline-saving benefits from filling up with E85 ethanol.
- Indiana Dunes State Park (100 miles) – about 4.7 gallons of gasoline saved
- Lake Geneva , Wisc. (165 miles) – about 7.6 gallons of gasoline saved
- Grand Haven, Mich. (345 miles) – about 16 gallons of gasoline saved
- Wisconsin Dells (390 miles) – about 18 gallons of gasoline saved
- Cedar Point in Ohio (580 miles) – about 27 gallons of gasoline saved
GM is encouraging customers in the Chicago-Rockford market to drive FFVs by offering a $1,000 fuel card with the purchase of a new 2006 or 2007 FlexFuel GMC Yukon, Yukon XL and Sierra as well as the Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche, Silverado, Impala and Monte Carlo until July 31. Customers will be able to use the card– valid at more than 40 participating stations throughout the market– for one year after the initial issue date or until the $1,000 limit is reached.
